Docks are pulled and water is 57 degrees. It was a welcome sight seeing 3 trailers vs 30 trailers at the access. Pulling shadraps put 2 in the boat, one 17″, one 18″.
I noticed a fish floating belly up with its gills flared out and drove up to it. Sure enough, 22″ fish with a bluegill stuck in its throat. Pulled her in with the net and pulled the gill out with pliers and tried to revive her but she had spent herself trying to free that thing. She had a great batch of eggs brewing for the spring which was a bit of a bummer but glad she won’t go to waste at the same time. Oddly enough I could not get her gills to stop flaring. The pic in the sink, she was stiff as a board but still alive.
With the turn imminent, this might be the last outing for this season. On the bright side, no mice in the portable and the auger fired third pull so we’re ready for hardwater when it arrives!
