I hit the west side last Friday hoping that the fish were back to their usual activity for this time of year, with better results than the week before.
After launching in the casino bay and trolling weeds with no action, we headed north.
Once we found the fish, the action was steady with either a hit or a fish on for the next 4 hours. Lots of hits with fish coming off shortly after. We found fish in 6 – 7 feet of water using #12 husky’s, speed was 1.2 – 1.4 mph.
I ended up keeping the motor in gear when we got a hit to leave pressure on the fish. This seemed to help getting them to the net. All of the fish we netted were hooked on the outside of their mouths. I’m guessing with the dark nights the fish may not be able to zero in on the bait as easily.
Color didn’t seem to matter. I used a glass perch and my partner for the night used a clown color. No real big girls, the biggest being 24 inches. We did take home 5 eaters though.
A little advice to anyone thinking of launching at the public access by the casino this fall, don’t. On the way back in with a north – northeast wind at 2:30 in the morning I got off coarse and ran aground while trying to get into the harbor. The sound of rocks dragging across a glass hull doesn’t sound good. And it doesn’t feel good jumping out of the boat to push it to deeper water when the water temp is in the 40’s. I bet that was a funny sight seeing a 350 pound guy in camo bibs roll over the side of the boat, push the boat off the rocks then stumble back in quick before we ended up on the rocks again.
Overall a good night though. Thanks for sharing my boat Paul. Your welcome back any time.

I know someone else that ended up in the rocks as well, oh yea that cashino landing sucks,, even though I don’t use it I like to keep the cash flow moving to harbors that work well for launching and loading.
Do you plan on getting out anymore?

Kraig,
It was a great time fishing with you on Friday Night. It was only fitting that you should end the night with the big fish. Mom and dad were really happy to see a couple of the fish in their freezer. One thing to add to the report would be the autopsy results. Two of the fish had 10-15 young of the year perch in their belly. Another had four. One was empty.
I hope the Skeeter is no worse for the wear.
Thanks again.
Babes and beer are fine, but are the bullheads biting?

Thanks for the reports guys. All of that convinces me more that the river is the place to be. As you know Kraig, I love the pond this time of the year, but WOW!! the wind…nasty!!!…….Out of the boat??? Can you say “shrinkage”……..lol
