Watching an episode of River Monsters tonight and low and behold Jeremy Wade is out catching Perch and Zander! Nevermind that he was fishing in the Chernobyl cooling ponds… Just thought I would share. This is actually one of my favorite shows although I could do without the superstition and “local legend” stories sometimes.

Yeah I’m with ya on all the talk of legends and superstitions. The 1st season was great because it was more down to buisness getting fishing for giants. I think the show has strayed off path a little, but I still end up watching it every week. ” title=”” class=”bbcode_smiley” />

I think you guys are missing the point of the show. Without the superstitions and legends there would be no “river monsters”! It’s not like he is going down to the Miss in St. Paul, where you can just drop a boat in the river. Hearing local legends is part of the epic adventure. Finding a local guide and going to places where 99.9% of us will never go is the part that keeps my interest.

i have watched this show many times. i do like the variety of fish he goes after and the size of some as well. i do think they make it a little too dramatic at times, but i think that’s part of these “reality tv” shows. i did like his earlier shows better, but i still watch at times. good luck.

I agree that the show has strayed off path a little. I think there are only so many true “river monsters”. It will be interesting to see how they keep this show going. Still a great show compared to all the other garbage that is on the tube. I’m looking forward to this weeks episode in the USA. Any guesses as to what species he will target? Muskies?
I love fishing. You put that line in the water and you don't know what's on the other end. Your imagination is under there. ~Robert Altman

One of the best shows on TV, hands down. And I agree with MM1971 completely. The “creepy” aspect of the show is what lends itself to pursuing “River Monsters”! Otherwise they could just as well call the show, Catching Big Fish in Rivers.
I loved the one where J went to the local African Witch Doctor to get his blessing, totem, whatever. The witch doc’s assistant was about as creepy looking a guy as you’d meet anywhere.
That’s what this show is about. The hunt for true water living monsters, and the people of the world that live with them.
This is a job I could do without a second thought. The world is amazing in it’s diversity if you’re only willing to step outside of your comfort zone and get out to see it.
