I restring my Musky reels 3-5 times a year. I use line that I remove from Musky reels to Outfit my Ti-Ups. The line I use is Toughf Line, Braided, 50 or 80 lb test. I usally put 75- 80 yards of line on each of my sets. Through out the season I remove 5-10 foot from them about once a month depending on how often I use them.

I never used braided line for my tip-ups and I do a lot of it. Tangles too easy, and gets hung up on the ice. It will even freeze to the ice if it’s cold. Don’t want it getting hung up if you have a pile of line on the ice and a good fish makes a run.
I use the coated line and it works great. Doesn’t tangle and slides through your fingers easily. Once in the water, it will limber up and straighten nicely.
After the coated line, I will attach a small swivel and use about a 5-6 ft. leader of 8lb. flourocarbon.

You must use the vinyl coated line. I also use it on all our rattle reels. This forums sponsor Fish House Supply carrys it. Here is a link to the line-

I use the coated line and have never had any problems. I won’t use anything else after I switched to it
