Who’s hitting the ponds tomorrow? I’m making room in the freezer tonight!

Too many people on the ice on opener especially on the local ponds like Chaska and Cenaiko. I’m waiting for more ice to form on Grindstone. Right now it’s not safe for any trucks, cars, or even ATV’s in my opinion. December 16 the lake was mostly open so not much ice would be forming on this very deep lake with the temps we have had. good luck.

January 12, 2019 at 10:10 pm #712595Checked ice yesterday on grind Reinhard. Plenty of ice for atv. Bet even people driving vehicles also
January 12, 2019 at 10:22 pm #712596Thank you I appreciate that. How thick is it? Guess I’ll have to change my plans and go earlier. good luck.

January 12, 2019 at 10:49 pm #712597I brought a chisel thinking not as thick also. Luckily guy with auger was out also. Had 14″ in about 10′ of water around corner of public Access. There were atv and snowmobile tracks going across the lake many places also
January 13, 2019 at 12:31 am #712598Thanks again Sundie!!! Never thought that would happen after the warm spell and the snow but I’m glad it is what it is. good luck.

January 14, 2019 at 2:56 am #712599No kidding! The Grind locks up late. Might need to make the trip while we still have a bit of warmer weather.
On a side note… Does anyone know if the access was ever dredged? Walking the boat out is fine but I’d like to hit the lake under power WITHOUT waders… LOL!
January 14, 2019 at 3:57 pm #712600Yes Moose Hunter the landing was finally dredged. I called for a few years and bugged the guy in charge and they finally did the fall of 2017. They dredged from the left side of the dock out 4 feet deep [that’s what he told me at the time]. however when you enter the lake part they had to stop because of “environmental reasons”. So I would still tilt the motor up a bit anyway. I didn’t have a problem with my 18.50 Crestliner with a 115 motor on it. The right side of the dock isn’t touched as well for the same environmental reasons. Don’t see what dredging out to deeper water would hurt. They took any dirt from the landing that was dredged out by truck. good luck.
