Fished north of Indian point last night from 5 pm to 11:30 with Ret-ro and DynamicDuo . We had air temps in the low 40s, south winds of 5-10mph, and water temps of 40-41F.
We started in the 8-12 fow range with no luck. We moved shallower (4-8 fow) and found action to be steady.
Ret-ro found the hot bait a #12 tennessee shad hj right off the bat. All fish were caught on baits with an orange belly (Perch w/orange/ Gold w/orange) but the Hot one was definitely the Tennessee. Also tried red hot tiger/firetiger/gold/silver-black with not a strike.Orange belly was the key.
Trolling speeds played an important role. Anything more than 1.5-1.7 and there was no action.
Several fish were caught when we would start a turn, the pause seemed to trigger the strike.
We ended up with a mixed bag of walleyes and northerns. Ret-ro caught a northern that was about 36inches and just a Slobberknocker, Fatbellied and Wide! DD caught the other that was 28+ and was also very healthy! The northerns are definetly feeding well.
We caught some nice box fish and some slots that were CPR’d. We had a 19″ and a 21.75″ that when cleaning were found to be males. The walleyes like the northerns are real healthy.
Here are a couple of the CPR’d
