Could it be that they saw what they believed to be a profitable business opportunity and are taking a chance on it? Isn’t that something that corporations routinely do?

This has been in the rumor mill for sometime now. The Mille Lacs Band is big money….big purchases of property and businesses

If you google the guys name from the article you can see he works for the Tribe and was involved with the them purchasing two hotels in St Paul in recent years. They have plenty of money to invest in big things.

                Big purchases is an understatement.

“Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures, with more than 3,500 employees, manages all the Mille Lacs Band’s businesses, including Grand Casino Mille Lacs, Grand Casino Hinckley, Eddy’s Resort on Mille Lacs Lake, InterContinental St. Paul Riverfront Hotel and the DoubleTree Hilton in St. Paul, the DoubleTree Minneapolis Park Place in St. Louis Park, Minn., 2020 Brand Solutions and Embassy Suites Oklahoma City, along with other Band-owned businesses such as a cinema, grocery store, gas/convenience stores, golf course, wastewater treatment plant, commercial laundry facility, medical office building and print shop.”

All this as the state and federal reps the majority vote in agree with this Tribal quote– “we need “subsistence” hunting and fishing rights!” Don’t complain until you CHANGE your vote!!

Its unreal isn’t it, our government is broke and we fund all their programs, fix their schools, etc, they have more money than any of us and yet the members of their tribes need to net fish in order to eat??? Its all a big poke in our eye.

Other corporations do not have the benefit of building their capital empire by way of casino monopolies. They basically have a “no compete” agreement and therefore have a distinct advantage.
Anyway, I see the Governor’s Fishing Opener is being held there this year. How convenient!

There was talk around the lake all winter about it being bought by the band. A lot of people that frequent bsl now won’t be anymore.

From what I know the governor opener was set before there were any talks about them buying it. But yes still convenient.
