Haven’t seen the lake to see how much snow there is on top of how much ice but counting on enough ice for foot traffic. Anybody else heading out this weekend or are we crazy?

People have already been walking out. They are crazy! haha

After this cold stretch I’d say you can count on foot traffic.

Unfortunately cams don’t tell me a whole lot being that not many people fish during the week and doesn’t tell me how much ice is under the unknown depth of snow.

Sounds like the ice is highly variable from 2-10″ around the lake. This cold will help but with huge drifts and huge slush pockets it’s a bad situation. Wheelers are already out of play. Snowmobile or foot is the best bet. I won’t be trying my luck on the pond till the situation improves. Having my fingers crossed my shack will get out by the New Year.

spoke to all the resorts on north end-they are all a no go for foot traffic. barnacles is pumping water on the ice (you can see on their web cam) to try and strengthen the 2 inches in front of their access. isle bay on food or snowmobile is the only option i have found.

We’re going to be walking out into Garrison Bay tomorrow morning and hope to deliver reports of a lot of fish and not that we went through. Floating suits will be deployed.

I’ve been one to push the envelope myself many times. But honestly these guys know their business and the ice. Plenty of other lakes that are much safer. If they are not even letting out walkers and reports of 2″ spots. just not worth it…..

A lot of the main lake ice sunk when we got that big snow and refroze with little or no snow on top as of last weekend. That area made good progress this week. Wheelers and sleds were on it today. The lake is very inconsistent this year but if you use early ice caution they’ll be plenty of spots to walk on this weekend.

We risked walking out, high risk high reward and we were lucky enough to pull 31 walleyes through the ice between 3 guys.
