You’ll get some different answers here so here was my experience.
I was looking for a boat 10 years ago. I was told to look at Lund, Crestliner or Alumacraft because the rest are junk. To make a long story shorter, I bought a Lowe and have been happy with the purchase for 10 years a do not plan on getting anything new anytime soon.
By going the direction I did, I got into a newer boat and more loaded for what I would have got with one of the big three. My boat has been through two kids, multiple trips to LOW, Leach and various other vacations.
I don’t believe there is a ton of differences between boats. I believe that you get the boat what you want and ignore the name on the side.
I have two friends that have G3 boats and I’ve never heard them mention anything about quality. The one wishes he had a tiller.
Everything being said I do think a big difference is aluminum and glass.
Good luck,
Jon
I don’t know him personally but his son and my daughter are friends. I know that his villa is the go to for people around here. I didn’t know of him or his family when we were down there.
I don’t know if things are different when we were looking to book the next day or what the deal was. I was told that we, my son and I, would have to wait on the fish since we were last sign up. I just assumed that it was based on a first to fill the boat.
For us it wasn’t a big deal, since the charter was chasing bill-fish only.
I don’t know if you’ve made a decision, but when we went to Cabo we were after multi-species with only one fishing day possible. We were helped out by a local and he told us that a panga is the way to go.
The bigger boats are “first come first to the reel.” Since we were going to be the last to book, it was possible that we could be just on a long boat ride out and back if the fish were not biting or if the fish took a long time to bring in.
We took a panga named Marlin Brandon with a captain named Rafael. He was awesome. We were out on the Pacific and in the Sea of Cortez in the 6 hours we were out.
We were fishing in 15 minutes of leaving the dock and fished the whole time.
We ended up with Dorado, Buenita(sp), Rooster fish, Needlefish(trash fish). It was great.
Good Luck,
Jon
Just got home from the Lake. we had 12″ below us. The snow has been pushed into drifts and has cleared areas free of snow. I think that was a good thing.
We just returned today from Chase. They are using snowmobiles and atvs out on Walker. We saw no open water. There were a few that walked out in front of the resort. Pretty darn windy. Really wasn’t a good situation for portable so we opted to go back to Leech some other time to fish.
Ski,
I probably won’t sway anyone’s opinion.
I’ve had the opportunity to really work atvs. I’ve used Polaris, Yamaha, Honda and at the time, Bombardier. I’m assuming that with all the things that seem to be a problem with each that I was really lucky.
I’ve never had a problem with any of the units that was not operator induced( stick through the radiator on the Polaris, Dropped the Yammy in the lake.)
That being said, I had the opportunity ,given by my wife, to purchase my own. I could have bought the work places Honda but turned that down since I knew what it went through.
To make a long story, short, I ended up going with a Polaris and haven’t looked back. It was a 4 years old ’96 Sportsman 500. Other than maintaining it, I haven’t had much of any issues with it. I know that its been a while and stuff has changed.
Why the Polaris? By far it was the smoothest riding ATV. Since I was going to use it more as a recreational vehicle, I went that direction. I currently, after 16 years with me, just cleared the last snow fall with the blade.
I feel, go out and get the best deal you can. Manufacturer in my book doesn’t matter if it has been taken care of.
Good luck,
Jon

That’s great! She’ll have my vote!
Loopy, sent you a PM Yesterday. I have one of each style. I’ll send you one.
I think I have and extra at home. I’ll check tonight after work.
Sell your Marcum, get the lowrance iceducer! I left the flashers several years ago and never missed them. I know there are guys out there that wouldn’t give up the flasher, but for me it’s been a better option. I know the argument of “real time,” your HDS is, just like my 520c is. You won’t regret it.
The only down fall that I can see is, battery life is shorter running the GPS.
I’m in!
That is sweet! That will fun hunt to recall every year.
