He was a nice deer just not what I am interested in shooting I would rather shoot a doe over a smaller buck I am looking for the trophy and I have alot of season left to hunt, it was fun to watch him wander around.

I was out saturday morning and Sunday evening.

Saturday morning I had a tall skinny 6pt walk right up to me 10 minutes before shooting time then stay out of range once I could shoot. The turkeys came out of their roost just after sunrise again, but it’s like they knew the season was on for them as they took a different path and didn’t walk right past me like earlier in the week.

Sunday evening got to watch/listen to all the turkeys fly to roost, they did it in the woods though and never stepped out in the open for a shot. If I could be up there this morning I could just sit in the grass next to the food plot and almost guarantee a turkey except I’m at work <img decoding=” title=”” class=”bbcode_smiley” /> . Didn’t see a deer.

I was out Saturday AM/PM and Sunday AM.

Sat the same stand as last weekend. This time no skunks or cranky grouse. Saturday morning was pretty quiet, climbed down around 10am and went in to the help my uncle with a remodeling project. Was back out by 3pm and sat until dark. About 6pm the deer became active. I had a nice sized doe come in but she veered off on the wrong trail and stayed about 40 yards out and in some thick brush. I had 2 more come in behind me but they stayed across a low wet area and behind a thick screen of brush. I didn’t get a look at either of them. Just a guess but I assume they were 2 young deer that I always see together on cam.

Sunday morning I had more deer moving behind me but never got a look at them. On a positive side all the deer I saw and heard this weekend ended up directly behind me with the wind blowing right into my face and toward them and none of them winded me and the doe i saw walked right down the trail i came in on and was not alarmed so my scent control routine seems to be working. Down side is that clearly I was set up on the wrong trail this weekend.

After Sunday mornings hunt I took a short walk to check out some trails to my south and within 50-75 yards of the stand I was sitting I found 3 new scrapes that look like they were just started. On my trail out I also found a brand new rub that was just started.

Checked the trail cam from the stand I sat and since last Sunday I had 100 new photos of deer. No big bucks this week, biggest looked to be a 6 point. Only have 2 eights on cam so far this season, one is a fairly small 8 but the other is a really nice large 8.
