I think that will be the way it will happen. The question is do you think that a walleye guy would know if he caught the next state record muskie? Not a slam on walleye guys but you wonder if bu chance one was already caught somewhere and then released before anyone could verify it. You wonder how many times the fish will be caught before someone realizes that they have a state record fish.
I think on Mille Lacs with the pictures that have been posted of big fish people have a good idea on what a record fish would look like.Also a Walleye guy might take a chance and bring one to a certified scale.I know of 2 huge Muskys that were close to if not record fish that have been caught on Mille Lacs by Musky guys.The one that was caught lately wasnt weighed on a certified scale and I believe was only weighed on a hanging scale the Wharf had.The other one that was caught a few years ago wasnt weighed either and just released.I can tell you this if I drag in anything close to a 54X28 its swimming days are over.
