MILLE LACS LIVES MATTER!!
State Government Must Act!
Vote for CHANGE!

• Mille Lacs fish allocations. Think 5,000,000 Minnesotans vs 50,000 Chippewa enrollees (8 bands). The 2015 tribal allocations: 50% of Mille Lacs pike and perch; almost 30 percent of Mille Lacs walleyes. DO YOU AGREE THESE ALLOCATIONS ARE UNFAIR AND MUST CHANGE?
YES NO
• Gillnetting spawning walleyes. DNR warns against “further depleting” walleye spawning stock; and cites low survival of young walleyes and a too-few-males gender imbalance. DO YOU AGREE WITH LAKE-WATCHERS WHO WANT GILLNETTING ACTIVITY AND MOTORING OVER MILLE LACS SPAWNERS STOPPED?
YES NO
• Major conservation issue. DNR can legally challenge tribal harvests for conservation reasons. Note DNR’s emphasis on problems, challenges, uncertainties; and the 2015 super-low 40,000-lb. combined state-tribal quota, a dramatic 95% drop from Mille Lacs normals. Huge conservation issues, eh? SHOULD DNR LEADERS USE THE CONSERVATION ARGUMENT AND PUSH FOR CHANGE?
YES NO
• Health and human safety. DNR could use health and human safety concerns to challenge tribal harvests and “treaty management” which make Mille Lacs Minnesota fishing’s biggest never-ending issue. Bad results: damaged image, constant controversy, false impressions (like “no fish”), angry people, Mille Lacs avoidance, severe economic impacts, uncertain futures, diminished optimism, unhealthy stress levels. SHOULD THE STATE ACT TO SAVE THE MILLE LACS FISHING COMMUNITY—PEOPLE NEAR AND FAR—FROM THE NEVER-ENDING INTOLERABLE HARM?
YES NO
This was voted on by the Mille Lacs In-put group last evening.
Care to guess the results?? ALL YES

There isn’t any reason to hold any more of those “input” meetings. They don’t listen to anything we say or do. There is no “input”. They had their minds made up before the meeting.
They are no longer working for us.

So the enactment of liberal bass and pike regulations, along with lifting of the spearing ban wasn’t suggested and promoted by the local resorts, guides, fishermen, etc, at all? I understand your guys’ frustration and whatnot, but to say the DNR hasn’t listened to your opinions and worked for you at all seems untrue.

Have they ever worked for us?
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources was formed (with taxpayer dollars from me and you) to manage the state’s many natural resources so that future generations would be able to enjoy the same hunting and fishing that we all enjoyed.
They don’t care about the resources anymore and would strip us of our proud outdoor heritage to hunt and fish just to bend over at the 3.5 million dollars that lobbyists for the Grand Casino and Mille Lacs Band contributes to the Democratic Party and Governor (Goofy) Dayton every year.

If I read one more post about the lifted spearing ban on mille lacs I’m going to explode. You people need to concentrate on your precious little walleye population which you’re clearly struggling with and not worry about the ONE northern over 30″ we can take while spearing, oh btw you can do that too while angling, or spearing. Go sit in a spear house for a while and tell me how many “trophy pike” you see. I sat on Mille Lacs a whole day and saw three dinks, but thoroughly enjoyed the crystal clear water (sarcasm). I have driven from the cities to devils lake the last six weekends to spear and angle because for some odd reason The ND Game and Fish manages their lakes far better than The MNDNR does, and yes there are Native Americans there. I speared three northerns over 20 pounds in those weekends and they are all going on the wall. Before someone says anything unintelligent let me mention I’ve speared since I was 8 in Minnesota on about 30 different lakes and never even seen a northern close to that size. Also, it’s hard to tell the difference between an 18 and 23 pound northern in the water and no one in their right mind passes on a 20+ unless they have one on the wall. Minnesota fishing is a joke, if you want a million walleyes, all from 15-32″, jumbo perch, and unlimited pike from 5-25 pounds, get in your vehicles and drive to Devils. I will never spear in this garbage state again, and I’ll be god damned if I’m gonna drive 90 miles to Mille Lacs to maybe catch one fish to bring home, when I can drive an extra four hours to catch unlimited walleyes and spear FIVE northerns daily. Oh btw, the season never closes in ND so go catch all the spawning walleyes you want, and trust me you won’t need a net. Off to Devils again this weekend, because Minnesota is closed and it’s a garbage fishery.
Have a wonderful weekend arguing about your phantom walleyes, I’ll be slaughtering no slot walleyes (because they don’t need a slot), jumbos, and trophy pike because they promote it. And if anyone says there is more pressure on Mille Lacs than Devils I’ll shake my head.

WTFWT???? There was nothing said on this thread about spearing on ML, other than the DNR listened to the resorts and opened spearing? Have a little fire water last night Trooper7? 🍻 Been there fellow spearer. Have a good trip. Give us a report when you get back! I’m going to go get my wall hanger on ML this Saturday, looks like it will be a beautiful weekend.

Hmmmm.. I wonder how long that fishing will last?
It will last indefinitely. DL is 7 hrs. from a major city. Comparing the 2 lakes makes no sense at all. TOTALLY different situations…. ” title=”” class=”bbcode_smiley” /> Plus I can’t even fathom driving that far every weekend for any type of bite, and most won’t.
