I usually try to fish a line without any memory. Those coils can hide a very soft pannie hit. On another note though, I have had days when hits coming on a floatless line were easy to see with just a hint of coiling present…the coil actually acted as a spring indicator might. You have to be darned quick on the hookset under those circumstanses though.
