Ba advised: That 60,000 pound figure also includes the thousands of pounds of “hooking mortality”. My guess the final “take” for sport fishing will be in the low 40,000 pound range.
“The Department of Natural Resources announced in January that the lake’s safe walleye harvest level will be 60,000 pounds, compared with 250,000 pounds last year. Sport anglers are allowed 42,900 pounds while eight Chippewa bands with treaty rights get 17,100 pounds.”
Don’t see any mortality allowance in there.
Wow… ” title=”” class=”bbcode_smiley” /> With quotas this low, I wonder if mortality has been or will be addressed.

OK, Gov. Dayton, it’s your call. Look at it this way: You and other state leaders jumped into the Viking Stadium funding crisis when the pulltab predictions flopped.
Well, Mille Lacs is Minnesota’s walleye stadium.
So you want Dayton to tax smokers more to bail you out too?
No, Bandersnatch, I think Ron Sharra, who wrote the article was refering to how Gov. Dayton stepped up to deal with the Viking Stadium funding crisis.
I don’t think he was trying to get any tax money, but I could be wrong.

Let’s not forget it was the funding crisis that he himself created with outright BS predictions on electronic pull tab revenues.
(and to date not One Dollar of ETAB revenue has gone to the stadium)

I thought Steve’s case was gonna shut ’em down – no taxes needed, the money is already there, like $51,690
Our tax money is basically paying for this whole mess.
This isn’t just “Steve’s case”. The legal fund you speak of is on behalf of ALL the sportsfishing anglers on Mille Lacs and the residents and businesses of the area that depend on the walleye fishing in this once great fishery. Fred Dally, Bill Eno and Bob Carlson are co-ordinating the Save Mille Lacs Sportfishing legal fund. Not Steve Felegy, although, like myself he is a member.
If you know anything about law, you know it takes time to get anything done. It’ll take more money than that to get things done, too. Feel free to donate more, if you can, baywatcher and thanks for your support.

Nonnatives need only bring their ears and their checkbooks- as our voices are not heard, while we continue being forced to finance this disaster.
Sure! Same thing happened on Red Lake and Leech. Over netting and increased angling pressure have depleted the lakes natural sustaining fish populations. White taxpayer had to come in and restock the lakes as we will have to do with Mille Lacs now. We will be stuck restocking the three lakes forever now or we will be back where we are now.
