Thanks!
Was out there Jan 4 and 5. Minimal snow when I was there. We stayed mostly in Creel Bay as were staying at Woodland Resort. Fishing was about as slow as it could have been. Granted we were in their permanent houses and were not mobile, but we had six people, some with electronics, some without. We fished four different houses and came up with next to nothing. Two full days, kept one walleye and 4 perch. Maybe caught a total of another 10 fish that were to small to keep, mix of walleyes and perch. First trip to Devil’s for me, was very disappointed. Resort was awesome though. Nice rooms, good people, good food in the bar.
I know this is a very late reply, haven’t logged in for a long time. Did some looking we booked Woodland for the 1st weekend of January. Thanks for the tip! Looks like a great place. any idea on normal ice conditions early January?
Does that mean the lake if f’d, or just the weaker fish died off due to lack of O2?
When you say it looked like someone opened a pepper shaker on the meat, how bad was it? I have eaten many of fish with what a lot of people call “worms”. MN DNR says safe to eat, and the way I figure, frying fish will pretty much kill anything.
Thanks for both replies. Kind of what I expected. I have a cabin on the lake, never overcrowded in the summer for fishing and normally don’t have a problem finding fish. Never anything huge as the poster said, but fun enough especially with my nephew. Have not tried much in winter but wast think8ng of giving it a go since I have a place to stay!
You say those are beef ribs? Looks like pork baby backs or pork spareribs, AND they look delicious. The only beef ribs I ever see at the grocery are short ribs which are much thicker. Where do you buy those ribs you cooked? I would love to get some to smoke myself! Awesome Q view!
My first mate on this trip wasn’t Jerry. It was a guy also named John. Big John (Captain) and Lil’ John (first mate). Lil’ John was also awesome. He said it was his first year doing this, and you could not tell. He knew what he was doing while setting lines, netting fish, and could answer all questions asked. Both Johns are some good dudes.
Thanks for the info. Both look like great options!
Thanks all!
Drove by a week ago, before the cold snap and saw quite a few houses. Anyone driving vehicles yet? Any ice and fishing reports would be appreciated!
Yesterday not much better. Put 5 “jumbos” on the ice. Not real big, all about 10 inches. Was able to ice a 30″ northern. That’ll fry! Also got
A small northern. We’ll pickle that one. Today we moved to about 14 FOW. Not much better. Thinks we got about 10 perch on the bucket right now. Thanks again Crawdaddy. Talked to our resort, they put their houses out yesterday. They’ll be driving us out in their side by sides. I’ll be trying to post updates each night. We’ll be fishing Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Possibly tomorrow depending on when we get there. Good luck to everyone out there!
Very nice! Throwing it on the wall or did she go back in the lake?
Any permanent houses out yet?
