Im heading out tomorrow morning to try to find some eyes with the 8 year old. Kid can’t stop fishing and he said he wanted to go to Mille Lacs to find some big eyes. heading out of Garrison launch tomorrow at 7am and will be on the mud somewhere and maybe some shallow reefs. We will start Lindy rigging and see if we can’t find some schools and then post up and power cork. Leeches and fat heads tomorrow with 8 foot snells, blue beads and a red hook. I will give a report tomorrow afternoon. STAY TUNED!
Lower Prior off of Sand Point by the beach. Follow the shoreline to the east around the point and fish anywhere between 13″-17″ FOW. 4″ of solid ice now and you could find 5″ probably by tomorrow. if you have Navionics on your phone you can see there is some nice structure there and you can park at the sand beach parking lot. Easy walk and access to some good spots. Don’t be afraid to fish deep either as the crappie will shoot off the bottom from 30FOW to 22FOW. If your looking for the 11″ plus city crappie thats the place to be! I will keep the reports coming. Be safe!
Fished Saturday and there is a solid 3” around sand point. Some spots had 4”. Fished Saturday from noon to 3:30pm and took a handful of blue gills and a descent size northern.
Checked ice tonight and found 2” tops. Slushy spots in some areas just around sand point heading towards the island. Lots of ice flexing under your feet. Not ready yet I will check tomorrow. I like this cold weather.
1-2″ and then lots of soft spots under the snow. I will check today, its looking better and with this cold it should be good to go by the islands this weekend. Keep you posted!
hows the bite? any action? remind me of the walleye limit this winter? Is it 1 fish 18-21″
Is extension needed as well?
I picked up that lure a the prior lake bait shop 2 weeks ago. They have a variety of colors and they are a $5.99 a piece. i have been fishing for crappie with it and it works wonders tipped with a minnow head.
Yesterday was a little better than Saturday. From 2 pm to 5:30 took 5 walleye down by the confluence. Nothing happening by the dam. Dragging over vertical jigging worked better. Took this 26″er but everything else was in the 14″ to 17″ range.

Head up to the ford dam on the Minneapolis side and fish on the rocks up by the damn. Fishing was slow yesterday but some overcast sky’s might do the trick with the bite.
Anyone have a report for walking out from the Garrison access? Ice thickness? Anyone fishing that first or second break line? Any news would help before I head north to find that it’s not accessible to fish!
Thanks for the help and Happy New Year……Im heading up Thursday night so by Friday afternoon i should have a report for you. Stand by!
Thanks for the update and info! I’m going to hit it hard from the dam working my way down. I will give an update tonight hopefully with pics. Going to stay out after dark. I have always done well dragging and staying vertical. I will let you know what technique works best.
