Or I’d like to hear a DNR person get up and say why they won’t allow a handicapped person to fish this publicly funded lake.
i think this thread said something about the access is seasonal, and if the access is shut down in the fall and only open in the summer months, well what more needs to be said.

I don’t have an interest in this lake either, but it seems to me that a handicapped fisherman or two could file a suit for a few bucks against the state and get their attention real quick like.
This is a public lake that receives public funds, and needs to be publicly available. Or I’d like to hear a DNR person get up and say why they won’t allow a handicapped person to fish this publicly funded lake.
That would gets someones attention really quick I bet. Chances are that would get the barriers removed. Either that or someone might be looking for a new job.
Normally not a fan of lawsuits but I would be fine with this one.

I have also put in a call to them and heard back from tony and bev, really nice people but sounded like they couldnt do much about it and told me to contact parks and rec as they are in charge of the decision. ……………………..
I figure if we leave enough messages he will have to atleast contact us back and if he knows a lot of us want this to be reopened we might get somewhere, worth a shot.
Sorry but these two are idiots. The commissioners run the damn county and they are telling you they can’t do anything and that you need to call a park and rec board that they fund and oversee? The commissioners make over $90k a year (about a 50% raise from 3 years ago) for doing absolutely nothing but pissing away Ramsey County money on worthless projects.
As for bigwally’s question about “what more needs to be said”, how about the reason the access is closed during the winter? As far as I know, no one in control of closing the access down has been able to give anyone who has asked why it is closed during the winter, a reason why the access is closed. Why is it such a secret as to why it is closed?
Leave as many messages as you want it if it makes you feel good but they will keep dodging the question until spring when it goes away with the opening of the access for the open water season.

They did claim that several years ago, some ATVer ruined the beach area and it cost quite a bit of money to repair it.
During the summer, this is a non-issue, as the access to Gervais is thru the channel from Spoon Lake.
The problem is, this access is not viable during the winter months due to water flowing in the channel and making the ice unsafe to drive on, or in some cases walk on.
There is a walk on access over by Kohlmann lake, but even in nice weather it is not easy to walk on, let alone when there is ice or snow.
All he is asking for is an opening wide enough to drive on to the lake.
Yes, we are spoiled in MN, being able to drive on lakes, but when you are handicapped, it becomes more of a necessity than a convenience.

Well you guessed it I am back with the same bitch.
Gervais lake in Little Canada, The winter drive on access is blocked off again this year. I e mailed the Watch Dog in the Pioneer Press with no luck either. Hopefully we get some cold weather so we can drive under the Spoon lake bridge to get to my Honey Hole. The well to do controls this people and we have nothing to say about it.

Ryan, the Ramsey county parks and rec (Greg Meck) is the man in charge. Not to pick on any one person but to give you a idea who lives in the lake Our Mn Twin’s coach lives on the lake.

Go down the left side to Property Info & Taxes,
Select GIS Online Mapping
You can view the property ownership all around the lake, print out the map, etc.
For ALL Ramsey County Property, find owners names and other information
Similar GIS website pages in most Counties
From what I could tell, there is quite a bit of private land around the lake, even with the road next to the lake, the owner across the street owns everything between the ROW and the lake (Ordinary High Water Mark)

Forgive me for not reading through the entire thread. But the issue here is the blocked off access for vehicles? Can one park at the access and walk out? Or is that also prohibited? (I understand the handicap issue but am just trying to understand the whole situation.)

How about an “Occupy Gervais Public Access” movement. Then they would let you get away with anything except camping, LOL!!!!
