I guess I don’t consider Mille Lacs a metro lake…. I’ve used my extension on mille lacs too. I was thinking more like tonka, prior lake, etc for distance for metro lakes.
I can confirm the ice is gone. Was on the north shore thursday-sunday. Thursday morning on the way up there were still a few people out on the ice just north of duluth but it was open water as far as you could see past them. Couldn’t believe they were out there. Driving home sunday the ice had all broken up with the warm and wind of the weekend.
Honest question when was the last time you needed an extension on a metro lake? I haven’t needed one in my adult life. Even the really cold winter a couple ago I made it through by digging down to the ice.
But how is the ice now? I gotta think after this cold stretch I should be trying to get up there next week
They are lucky she wasn’t seriously injured or killed. Just insane to me someone could drive through an ice shelter like that and not stop to make sure the people are OK.
I plan on sticking around and am happy to help in anyway. Thanks for trying to resurrect this site. As Tim said, social media is mostly horrible and annoying. I’d much rather come here for questions, discussions, tips, info etc.
It’s been at least 5 years since I last fished it but form what I remember its not clear at all.
People seem to be really pushing it this year. Was up at the cabin this weekend and saw someone drive out a double axle wheel house with their truck. I drilled 40ish holes and never found more than 12” of ice and I got slush every time I drilled due to the snow. Some people are crazy
Use to live a few blocks from the lake up until 3 years ago. Ice fished it alot. If you know where to go you can get on hotter crappie action starting at dark until about 8-9pm. I mean lights out, can’t fish 2 lines, marks shoot off the bottom up 12′ and meet your jig type of hot crappie action. It’s good to see the size structure has improved some. Back then if you got an 8″ it was every 15-20 fish. Maybe around 5% were 8″ or bigger, most were 5-6″. Still fun to be on a bite like that and consistently too.
FYI when the stocking class of eyes stick they eye fishing can be very good too.

For our neck of the woods this is an awesome buck! 99% of the ones we see have the small condensed basket racks.
Sure hope his genes get added to a lot of does this fall!Great Buck! This is the first year in the last few I haven’t gotten 1-2 like that on camera. Never see those big boys during the day once the shooting starts anyway but I still like seeing them on camera.
Looks like a sweet set up!
Thanks for the update Paul!
Ok a few more

You must be logged in to view attached files. This week might delay it a while. Suppose to be 70 when I’m driving up to my hunting land for deer opener. Going to be sweating my balls off in the stand saturday.
Most of mine are the standard deer, turkey, pheasant I always get. Then this guy popped in a bunch of times. Yes I know my date and time is off..
