I went out of the garrison public access yesterday.. I walked out because I dont trust the ice conditions. We found 6-7″ of ice, but also broke through the top layer in some areas with the spud bar and moved around those..there were areas that were flooded from the snow.

I wouldnt drive my snowmobile out there right now, but felt fine walking out to the first break…though it did suck pulling the gear through all that snow hahah

Following this as well. was thinking of going up Saturday. Would a snowmobile work for getting around (fan cooled). Not sure if there is any snow at all on the ice or not

Nice video! Curious what end of the lake you went out of? I am thinking of doing a day trip this weekend. Was thinking either red door or going out right by Garrison. (Walking) Any thoughts would help!

I got the Frabil I3 jacket for my girlfriend so that she has the entire ice suit, and got the Strikemaster lithium 8″ 40 volt. Excited to try it out this year and see how it goes! I have only heard great things about it

Yeah, that is what I was thinking..I was really surprised they dont sell any cylinders for the auger anymore. My plan is to fix the rings and work on the piston a little bit. I am going to buy a new auger. Looking at the lithium so I dont need to worry about all the gas auger issues I have had.

I will just keep the other auger as a backup to go back to gas whenever I miss that smell on the ice hahaha

Well it would start fine, but not after the engine warmed up. I pulled it apart and the piston is shot. The rings on the piston were melted to the piston, so it needs top end work. The issue is deciding whether it is worth it to replace the piston and rings and hope the cylinder is in good enough condition to work

The cylinder isnt scored too bad. there is one vertical smooth line going up the cylinder, probably a quarter of an inch wide if that. The auger actually would start up fine and run fine, it was just getting it to turn back on after warming up that was tough. I could get a new piston kit for it for $20 bucks, so I am curious if that would fix the issue at least for a season or two.

I run the Frabil I2 series bibs and jacket combo. Not either of what you were asking hahaha but I love them. For me I think striker do better than clam. I like clams look but they seem more bulky if you are looking for a thicker layer for sitting longer. I like to hole hop so I like the thinner layers that still keep me warm enough to hole hope or fish out of the portable.

Everything else is in pretty good condition. The seat has no tears, windshield is good, overall exterior is good. Interior has rust but not much else.

I believe the gas is flowing well. When I have been pulling on the sled to start it, I will start to smell the gas coming through the cylinder holes and the plugs get wet.

I pulled apart the cylinders and found that the piston on the PTO sides upper ring was flugh with the piston and stuck in the piston. I couldn’t move the ring freely. The lower ring could move, but not easily.

I took the cylinder into a mechanic and they said I will need to buy a new cylinder for the sled. I brought it home and a friend of mine who is a mechanic is going to try to hone the cylinder, but he said he doesn’t know if it would work.

Right now, if the cylinder needs to be replaced I will need to get a new piston, rings for both cylinders, seals, and a cylinder for the PTO side. Is it worth it to fix this sled for 150-250 (depending if I need a new cylinder)? Thanks for all your input guys!

Are you talking about the carb boots? Is there a way to tell if they are still in good condition or not?

I was going to pull the engine over this weekend enough to see if the plug get gas on them. Would that be a good way to see if the cylinders are getting enough fuel?

Oh geez, I guess I should have checked the wind. Won’t be able to go out there with wind like that

Awesome report. Thanks for the details. I am going to try to make it down there in a few weeks. Sorry to hear about the motor, I had that happen to me last year on Pepin. Not much fun having the boat in the shop right away to start the year. Hope its a quick fix.

Why do guys like casting when slip bobber fishing walleye? I always will fish by the boat with it because I am watching my graph.

I also have the motoguide xi5 so I can troll around, or I just use spot lock, but I have done well fishing by the boat. Just curious why guys like casting out away from the boat when in deeper water slip bobber fishing
