I caught them on shiners only. Didn’t even get a bite on a fathead.

Hey guys thought i’d give my report.

Friday night was pretty good, although nothing in the keeper range. After that it got really slow for me. Not sure what changed, but after 8 am Saturday didn’t catch another walleye. All that I caught were on set lines, couldn’t get a walleye to bite on a jig, and tried a few different styles and colors. Did get a couple tulibee’s on jigs.

Planning to head back up the next couple weekends, thanks again for the tips/advice.

He’s a top 10 QB in virtually every statistical category. There is a lot more to winning games than the QB. He has his faults for sure but largely he has held up his end of the bargain this season.

You know what he’s not top ten in…..WINNING GAMES…HAHA. You can have all the stats you want, there are more than 10 QBs I’d take way over Cousins. He is an average QB, not great, not terrible. Problem is we paid him like he is great.

Oh yeah, Keenum did awesome for Denver…..NOT….got his coach fired.

Keenum was not the answer, so they took their shot at Cousins, was really their only decision. And for all the bashers, go compare Cousins stats this year to Keenum’s last year…..Cousins is better. Keenum just got better defensive support, and better luck, playing a 4th place schedule over a 1st place schedule.

The mistake was believing the Vikings were a QB away from a Superbowl. That was never the case. They had a lucky year, and a miracle win in the playoffs to even get to the Championship game.

This years finish is not all on Cousins, it was a lot more than that. Defillippo was a lot of the problem. But Cousins did not play all that well either, terrible pocket presence, too many turn overs, and with the terrible OL (again!!) he seemed to loose his cool in the pocket too fast.

Cousins is better than Keenum – and was the best available solution. Just too many other team SUCK points.

Oh yeah, and Cousins was awesome for Washington….NOT… he isn’t even a career 500 QB.

Not saying its all on Cousins, just saying he has never been that great either. You ask me its on Zimmer. I know I shouldn’t say that most MN fans would take a bullet for him, I just haven’t figured out why yet?

Typically the does and fawn will join back up after she gets bred. Not at all unusual that she would have a fawn with her again. I would bet she is bred already, most of the does get bred the 1st time around.

If a does gets missed or doesn’t take the first time around, usually they will come around again 28 days later. This will usually be the early part of December around the 10th or so. That’s why you see that mature buck with a doe in the early part of December.

I did see a smaller buck harassing a doe Saturday morning, but the rut should be over at this point. I think the buck I was watching was just hoping to catch one more, the doe didn’t want anything to do with him.

                    I disagree with you 100%!.

Just for the record I do not in any shape or form work with or work for the DNR.

I have been un-happy with the DNR over several issues over the years but to say that the ENTIRE DNR are nothing but Jack*sses and the whole organization is a joke is totally wrong and inaccurate! There are a lot of good hard working people that work for the DNR. I personally do not know anyone that does work for the DNR but have met many over the years. What do you do for a job? I wonder if someone could call you on a question and just maybe you were not able to come up with the correct answer 100% of the time……hmmmmmm???

Yes, you did have to make three phone calls + a little aggravation….. big deal. Get over it and put on your big boy pants and have fun nailing a nice deer for the freezer during muzzy season!

So just to be clear, you are ok with the officers not knowing the laws? The laws that they are paid to enforce? That’s an odd position to take???

Maybe if the regulation book wasn’t over 100 pages, both the hunters and the officers would know what the hell was legal or not.

I would say the deer in the photo is a 3 year old, however that angle is tough to tell.

Judging deer on the hoof is an inexact science at the best. I think its fairly easy to differentiate deer from 1.5 yrs to 4.5 years. Once they get older than that I think it gets tough. Luckily form me where I hunt most people do there best to never let them see their second birthday!!

Here are some tips that I think make it easier to judge.

1.5 year old. Pretty simple, they look smaller than most does, and typically have a little fork or spike.

2.5 years. They look about the same size as a big doe. Horns are typically still quite spindally, they have “long legs”, they are short from the shoulder to the rump, their faces look very stream lined.

3.5 yrs. The biggest thing that changes is they seem to stretch out. If you look at a 2.5 compared to a 3.5 from their shoulders to their rump, the 3.5 is much longer. Their chests also start to deepen quite a bit, however they still typically have a “tight waste” (which is one big difference between them and 4 yr olds). When you think of a 3 year old, think race horse, their bellies still tuck up into their hips.

4.5 Chest gets bigger and they start to look really muscled. Their rear ends look really square, their bellies will start to hang, they start to look boxy. Their heads also start to look blocky, and this is when they start to really add mass on their horns.

5.5 yrs. Deeper chest yet, saggy belly, lots of mass on their horns (typically their best horns are 5.5 or 6.5) really square looking deer. The racehorse look is completely gone at this point. The der is fully mature now, and basically looks like a bulldozer.

I have been able to follow a few deer via camera from year to year, and it can be pretty amazing how much bigger they get. One thing I always tell people is if you see a 4.5 yr old or older you will just know. After seeing doe after doe, and little scrub after little scrub, when you see a 4.5 they look massive. they look about 3x the size as the deer you are used to seeing. 3.5’s look big, but they don’t have that really deep chest or that boxy look like a fully mature deer does.

Not telling you what to do, afterall its your land. But that top photo is a 3 yr old deer, I would bet my salary on it. He will be huge in 2 years. He is big now, but in 2 years, monster status. Just sayin.

Buxton has a looooong way to go. I sure hope he gets better but, typically once a free swinger with no eye the plate, always a free swinger with no eye at the plate.

I hope he turns it around, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

                              Lets think about the division:
KC They are the WS champs. They have a better offense, better starters, and probably the best BP in baseball. So they are far superior to us.
Detroit. Their offense should be one of the best in baseball. Starting rotation should be pretty good, and their BP has always been their achillies, but they think they have it fixed, we’ll see. I would take their team over ours for sure.
Cleveland. They have a very good starting staff possibly one of the best. Their offense is only average, and to be honest I don’t know much about their BP.
CWS. I am not sure why every one is so down on these guys. Their offense should be good, their starters are very good, and their BP is solid. I actually think this team should contend very well. Again I am not sure why everyone is so down on them?
Twins. Our starters are average at absolute best. Our offense is very unproven, and they guys that are proven aren’t very good. (mauer good avg, but no power. Dozier good pop, but no average. Plouffe double play machine and mediocre at very best. Suzuki one year wonder.) The rest are complete unknowns.

So to me when I look at the division, I can’t see how anyone would think we will be .500? I think we will be lucky to finish 4th in the division.

And after watching most of the first 8 games, I don’t see us finishing anywhere but last. And my bold prediction is Buxton will be known as one of the biggest busts in baseball. He is pathetic to watch at the plate.

Since I always get told on here “that I never said that”, looks like I pretty much nailed this one.

I have shot deer with quite a few heads. Still prefer fixed to mechanical, but mechanical sure make life simpler.

I like Grim Reapers for mechanicals. Shooting the Razor Tips currently. I prefer them over everything else mechanical.

I shoot Gold Tip pro hunters as well. I have been happy with them, some of mine are probably 5+ years old. I have had a few of them break when I shoot an animal.

I also bought some Cabelas arrows (I can’t remember which ones), and I can shoot them just as good as the Gold Tips. I bought them out of curiosity, and moving forward they will always be my arrows. You can buy 12 for less than the price of 6 of the name brand arrows. I haven’t shot a deer with them yet, but I am not sure why they wouldn’t work, and when you lose one or break one it doesn’t hurt so much.

Its crazy what Easton, CX, Beman, Gold Tip charge.
