I’ve always wondered how big the largest inland lake (not from Great Lakes) trout was from Minnesota. How big was the one caught in Burntside that you were referring to?
Figured it’s been forever since I posted and since the site is looking for a touch up I would post something. Fished Bald Eagle on Sunday morning and noted the water temps are still fairly high at 75 degree’s. I would anticipate them to slowly drop throughout the week with the current weather outlook and drop much faster next week with the cooler temps on the way. I was out fishing skies along with quite a few other guys but did not see any beyond a fish porpoising right in front of my boat. Noted a lot of guys on the south side fishing the fingers but didn’t see anyone have any luck, doesn’t mean they didn’t. Water is very green right now and hard to see your bait, algae bloom is still pretty prevalent. Tried alot of different baits but hard to see what they’re doing or where they are when you don’t get any action. Will definitely start getting out more now that the heat of the summer is hopefully behind us and some cooler temps set in.
I tried this but when I went to do that on my screens the options they had didn’t show up. I’ve updated mine somewhat recently so I’m not certain why the menu options are not the same.
Water in the lower unit oil is not good. JB weld or actually welding that would be a low cost option but could ultimately cause failure if it doesn’t work. Replacing with a used one if you could get your hands on one would be more ideal.
Failure wouldn’t be an issue on a local lake, but if your on a secluded lake in bad weather a motor breakdown could be catastrophic.
Appreciate the offer but I want a newer chip.
Well I see my last-post didn’t work so I’ll try this again. Fished last Saturday morning until about noon. Traffic on the lake was light and so were the bites but we did manage to move 2 muskies on suckers. One slashed at the bait but never went after it. Really odd. The other one did take the bait down and we set on it but missed. Hoping to get one last trip out there tomorrow chasing muskies.Good luck to any die hards left if the open water holds out.
Lots of people taking advantage of the nice weather on Saturday. Launch was almost full. Anyways the water temp was in the low 50’s. I had 53 on the north end and 51 on the southern side. Managed to catch one nice 16 inch walleye after dark under a float and missed a few others. Water seemed pretty musky yet so maybe needs a few more days to clear up after turnover.
Fished the bear tonight for walleyes…..no dice. Talked to a few muskie guys coming in and they had similar results. Water temp was 61-60 so no turnover yet. Not sure what it will take but hoping for a pick me up here shortly.
Threw the kitchen sink at em and nothing was moving fish. Tried shallow, tried deep and neither boat in our crew saw one in 3 days. Water temps were about 59 degree’s on Saturday so still fairly warm. Ended up switching over to fish walleyes and did manage to catch a nice limit of those on Friday evening but Saturday was a bust with the high winds and clear blue skies. Was fun to get to see this lake, can’t wait to return, just hoping for some more cooperative fish.
Thanks for the tips but I got a question. If you’ve never fished the lake how do you know about all these spots to hit? Are you just gathering that by looking at a map?
Nobody answered the original poster but I have the same question 2 years later so I thought I’d ask. Heading up to Vermillion in two weeks to fish muskies for my first trip to the lake. Going to be staying on the east end near Fortune Bay so just looking for some idea’s around locations, baits, colors, anything really. I’ve only ever fished in the BWCA for everything but muskies so I’m really looking forward to this bucket list item.
I’m honestly thinking about just trolling. Trick is this lake gets so busy during the week that you almost need to wait for crappy weather or evenings. Might just have to do that.
I’m sure you’ll be happy with whatever you get. Almost all trucks these days are significantly more powerful and capable than those from 10 years ago. They are certainly getting more luxurious and expensive. Good luck.
Don’t take our word for it, go to a dealer and drive one. You’ll see for yourself why people like myself like the Ecoboost so much.
Also they’ve been on the road since 2011. I’m pretty sure there are plenty on the road with over 150k on them. Ask around. Mines only got 83k at the moment.
Sorry didn’t see your reply earlier. Gas mileage for me really depends on what I’m towing and what speed I’m towing it at. If I’m towing my boat doing 60-65 I can get 14-15mpg. If I’m towing it at 75 I get about 13.
I also own a 23 foot camper. It’s fairly light but they’ all have the same wind resistance. I get anywhere from 9-10 pulling that doing 75-80. I’ve never really pulled the camper slower so I couldn’t tell you but I’m sure it would be slightly better.
You will not have power issues with an V6 ecoboost on anything under 8K. Some are rated for 10. Your issue at those weights is vehicle weight vs tow weight. Anything above and beyond those weights and you should be considering a larger truck for safety reasons.
Personally I prefer the ecoboost over the V8’s. They’re more peppy and pull with more torque. Every time I get behind the wheel of a V8 it just feels slow and groggy.
Your call tho, happy shopping.
