I was shocked to see that little bay South of Indian Point right by the Casino looked to be totally ice free when I drove by yesterday. The rest of the lake, not so much.

WS, That was cruel Man. You had me for just long enough to think… I’m heading out this weekend. Then reality crashed down on me and returned me to the honey do list.

Does it look like it’s getting close to giving up the ice up there yet? The pictures I’ve seen haven’t changed much recently.
Some of the smaller lakes in the area went ice free this past weekend. And the big Lake Mille Lacs sheet has moved at least twice due to wind the past couple days ( winter “movement” is ONLY due to temp changes–expansion and contraction)…about 30ft. total back and forth. So it is “free” now and maybe less than 10 days from being gone? Maybe two weather fronts/big winds will take it out–by the 10th?? Or 8th?? Or …..
The main sheet has moved a lot the past 24 hrs. First it went in an easterly direction and piled up on the west side of Knox Point pretty high. Late this afternoon it took off heading west/southwest and piled up on the western /southwestern shores. That move gave it a lot of room/open water to move across along the north and eastern shores. BIG west/northwest winds will move it fast the next 24 hrs.-36 hrs. to the east and southeast. Should be piled high somewhere east and or south tomorrow and or over the weekend ( Friday/Saturday). That will leave the west and northwest side with lots of open water. If the waves don’t chew it up from west to east the next 24 hrs.-36 hrs., I assume the next wind switch to the south and or east will take it out. I would not be surprised that “ice out” could be no later than mid week–the 5-7th? Or sooner…
