I know some people that have gone out with guides that used them and said it was mind blowing how helpful they were. Mainly used them to stay on schools of crappies. “Drill a hole 20 feet in that direction…”

I own a 45 as well and had some similar issues but it always turned out to be the main plug for the ducer wasn’t connecting right for lack of a better term. It was almost as if the male end was too big for the female end (make whatever joke you want here). Solution was just to push it in as hard as I could, and never had problems after that. I do feel like the wires to the battery are a little small as well, have had to replace those.

Sorry you got a bad one but when they are working, I think the Humminbird and the Marcums out perform the vexilar products by a long shot. I feel like Vexilar rested on their laurels and got passed by ong ago.

I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on Lac Seul. I’ve gone out of Lost Island Lodge a few times and had a fantastic time. On one trip, 5 days, we went through 43 dozen minnows. lol Trophy walleye, pike, and smallies are all available. We brought our own food and saved a ton. Boats and gas were included in our price. Do your due diligence and you’ll find a great resort for the right price on any lake in Ontario. If you have your own boat and good mapping software, you should easily do 100 fish days on Lac Seul. We had no maps and stayed within sight of our cabins and still were pushing 100 fish days.

Depends on which flat you want to fish. All the resorts on the west and north side will get you to the mud. Red Door, Barnackles, Randy’s, etc. Even some on the east side will go all the way out to the mud.

I was up there last weekend and there were some areas where travel off the roads was possible, and there were areas that you’d spend more time digging yourself out vs. fishing. Had a friend go out of Randy’s last Friday and they buried their Jeep. Also watched a truck and castle take two hours to get out of the snow. Sled will be the best option if you have one. Key right now is to stay mobile. You can pick up a couple roamers anywhere you set your house, but it won’t be steady. If you can keep on the move, it can be really good.

Last weekend we got nothing on set lines. We also got nothing on top of the flats. Everything that we put on the ice came from off the edges of the flats with spoons or with Acme Rattle Masters.

            Good luck.

The hard part was from his nose to his eyes was almost 8 inches, so yes, getting his head turned up the hole was a battle. At one point I told my fishing buddy he might have to reach in and grab it, and I was met with lots of swear words. lol

PS I’m getting lots of grief for not keeping it.

I drove around it on Saturday. The east side had areas of ice out for a hundred yards or so. The north had lots of basketball sized chunks floating near shore, but wasn’t close to locking up.

Well ice out on Minnetonka was April 20. However, talking to a relative up in Deer River, little Winnie has 3 feet of ice yet, and it’s not even pulling away from the sides. Ice out by opener might be cutting it close up north.

I would say the same or earlier. The insulating snow does insulate the ice from melting, but it also prevented ice from forming. I didn’t read about anywhere with more than 40 inches of ice, along with the rain, I think it’ll be open by May.

Side note, I remember several years back fishing on LOW on April 1st and we drilled through 60 inches of ice! Same time the next year…open water. You just never now.

We were just as surprised as any of you when we saw the red eyes under the hole. My buddies son kept asking who caught the most impressive fish for the day. I told him, in the summer, a 20 inch smallie is an amazing fish…in the winter its unbelievable. I’d take the smallie over the 26 inch walleye that was caught any day.

I fished out of Beachside last weekend and I wasn’t impressed. They weren’t plowing their roads. The road I needed to use was only one car wide, and blocked by a stuck pickup and wheelhouse. He had been trying to call the resort several times but no one answered. Drove back in to tell the resort he was stuck and needed help for him. Just didn’t strike me as a well run operation.

There isn’t really a spot on the lake right now where you can’t catch fish. Any break line, hump, etc you will catch fish. Mud flats are good but ice thickness and snow drifts right now are causing issues with mobility.

My simple recommendation would be a flutter type spoon and any structure that you can get to safely. Rocky Reef in that corner would be a starting point. Lybacks on the south side has good roads and structure easily accessible.

Was out on Garrison Bay on the 15th. We were on 10 inches of ice, but there were cracks and heaves all over. Had to walk the last 300 yards and leave the wheeler behind. Caught fish from 12 inches to 21 inches.

Thanks to all the suggestions. We walked out from Garrison when it was -27 out. Sat in about 12 feet of water and caught a dozen eyes, 4 inches to 25 inches. No real hot time, or depth, but puppet minnows seemed to work best.

BTW we were on 8 inches of ice.

We fished out of Garrison yesterday, -27 when we walked out. We caught fish from 8 feet out to 14. Smallest eye was 4 inches lol, largest was 25. Jigging raps and puppet minnows seemed to be the most productive.
