Myself and many others are not ready to concede this once great walleye fishery to be the next Bass-a-rama lake or musky holding pond.
What we have for muskies is fine. There’s enough trophies to catch.
Try not putting them in the lake for a few years…………
just to see what happens…………
Try not netting walleyes during the spawning season for a few years…………………
See what happens…………………….
Shut the whole lake down for EVERYTHING!
See what happens…………………….
Make it illegal to fish on Mille Lacs!
FOR ANYTHING!
See what happens……………………….
If you’re going to close the lake, THEN CLOSE IT DOWN!

I guess I’M the guy they’re pointing this paranoid discussion at, so I’ll answer ’em, although this is in no way connected to the original posts.
1. Musky are huge eating machines that eat their own weight in forage at a rate that is beyond any other fresh water fish. (VERY aggressive.)
2. These fish are an invasive species to Mille Lacs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAOmXeDW5_Q
Therefore, they are yet another change to Mille Lacs. Unless you guys want to start to question whether Mother Nature got it right the first time. THEY ARE NOT INDIGENOUS TO MILLE LACS.
You have no facts to back this logic. If you want to start talk about how some fish are not indigenous to lakes why don’t we look at all the lakes in MN that walleyes were INTRODUCED to…. You are so ignorant in believing that muskies even play a small factor in mil lacs problems. Take a step down from your high horse and look at things from behind your blinders.
Also we are not saying that muskies wont eat a walleye, that would also be very ignorant to say. But just because you “think” something doesn’t quite believe its true. I “think” the vikings will win the super bowl, the wild will win the cup, and the twins will win the world series every year…..

Yeah, otter, I’m afraid in my ignorance I really do believe what I say.
The musky will eat any thing it can catch. It’s a big stomach with teeth. The only reason it doesn’t favor walleyes, is because it’s not as fast as walleyes.
It WILL eat walleye, if it can catch one.
As far as THIS crap goes:
“You have zero evidence to any claims and your ignorance and ignorance by the resorts is a big reason the economy around Mille Lacs is going downhill instead of growing with the advent of two world class fisheries. Simply you guys have refused to diversify or adapt, what happens is your fault. “
You have zero evidence to any claims.
Introduced the zebs, too.
You do realize that a walleye is also a stomach with teeth right? why don’t you complain about the northern pike in the lake eating the fresh hatch of walleye? Not sure if you know this, but the northern are probably eating more walleye than the musky. Musky more than likely will eat 1 for a meal (if it chose to eat walleye) northern can fill up on 4 or 5 small eyes for dinner. Hell, I have cut open walleye that had WALLEYE in their bellies. There’s a reason Musky guys fish with 15-20 inch suckers in the fall, they’d choose one easy meal over 5 or 6 meals (hence why they are difficult to catch).
My son was up this past Friday & took a 4 hour launch out of the wharf- he said they caught 14 walleyes with the biggest being 25 inches. It was a bachelor party so not very serious fishing going on-
I’ve noticed a good year class of eye’s reaching 14to16 inches now (or so)the last 4 or 5 years. The perch not so much.I don’t know what year it was (2006/7)winter/spring I think, there were thousands upon thousands(maybe millions) of dead perch stacked up on the bottom of the lake you could see under the ice!!!!!Since that season the perch have slowly seemed to disappear.Just this past season was the first in ten years or so i’ve been able to get 10 or more jumbos in one ice season(10″ or bigger being jumbos). So yes it seems to me(not biologist or lake specialist)that the lake is on a rebound.Oh I forgot to mention that i’ve caught more 16to22 inch pike in the last two years than I have in the last 40!!!c63

I “think” that’s a walleye in there…
See muskies don’t eat smaller fish, they just let them sit in their mouth to protect them ” title=”” class=”bbcode_smiley” />

Get over yourself 247…fishpole lives and breaths mille lacs, infact he’s more hands on compared to any book worm the aitkin dnr office can muster up.
He may live and breath mil lacs but his views about muskies are obviously biased.
Again name calling and talking about Muskies is not what the original poster was informing LSF members about. I am locking this thread and I will be sending a pm to those who are disobeying LSF rules by name calling and other issues……………Kirk
