      Bobber,
How are we looking for snow? i am heading up tonight and i heard you got some snow. is the north end mostly drivable or do you have to stick to the roads?

The roads are open..we lost alot of snow cover with the warm temperatures over the past few days this weeks. makes going cross county better.

that’s correct along the first break out front of the resort. East has been good….not saying that going west would be bad either

                1-6-16 update
We found a few areas of concern out on Fletcher and eastside of Resort Flats. These areas had some snow drifts that had only 3-4 inches of ice under them! On the bare ice only 20 feet away would have 8 plus inches of ice. This area would be on what I have been calling the old ice. The new ice which at this time has no snow cover is good at 8 plus inches of ice. We also came across a active crack on the southend of Wiemer that was running east and west. Walking and atv/sled is ok at this time. Lets hope the cold weather coming will improve these area’s of concern.

                Report 1-6-16
Ice is checked to the mud! We have staked a trail to the north end of the Bombeck and Weimer flats and are finding 8″ plus consistently. Bob and Shawn are checking ice further and we will follow with results. The perch bite has been the big news for early season with many strong results of jumbo’s 12+ inches. Walleye bite remains strong for multiple year classes and our guests coming back smiling! Check out the great pics shared by our guests. Please share pics and information to our newly formed email address at [email protected] to share photos and information to keep our guests well informed. We are hoping with the cold weather coming in, we may begin pulling houses next week. Boot traffic is free but we are charging an access pass for all ATV’s and snowmobiles. Stop in and see us at the resort today!

well we will see the ice depth increase after the weekend Monday-Tuesday next week.

So far we have seen the ice depth only improving 1 inches every two to three days.

Its looks much better…at least the ice making weather!!!

                      The Red Door Resort 1-5-16

The walleye action has been pretty good out on the sand break out front. The perch have been showing up also…keepers in the 9-13 inch range! 17-22 fow has been the best.
Our current ice is 7 inches on the newest ice out front. The snow covered older ice is more. We do have some cracks that are moving with the changes in temperatures. Yesterday we had directly a crack in front of the access that was running off to the SE. It was 24 inches wide in the morning and closed up in the afternoon with the warm sunshine.
We do have two spear houses set up! not much to report on them yet!

No I did not see that. Im nervous enough with the side by side going to mile and a half reef. The ice was 7-8″ most of the way and then it looked like a little different ice sheet and that was 6″ for the next half mile. Hopefully nobody falls through.

                        yep..no plow on it!!

                          I hope we do?

we have 5-5.5 inches in front of our access. that has to increase to 12+

I think you might be alright. Ice is just starting to form along the shoreline on Mille Lacs today. 15 degrees tonite might add to some of that
